Global Operations

Ensco’s skilled employees, high-quality rig fleet, global presence and operational and safety performance make us the driller of choice in the offshore oil and gas industry. Today we are the leader in customer satisfaction and the world’s second largest provider of offshore contract drilling services, with a fleet of 74 drilling rigs, including dynamically positioned drillships and semisubmersibles, moored semisubmersibles and premium jackups.

Within our asset types, standardization of rig construction and equipment creates efficiencies in our ability to train and promote our crews and to manage repair, maintenance and spare parts. This efficiency translates to higher operational performance for our customers.

Floater Capabilities

Our fleet of 28 floaters includes the world’s newest ultra-deepwater fleet. Our six drillships and nine ultra-deepwater semisubmersibles average less than three years in age, and we continue to add new rigs, with three additional drillships under construction.

Our DP3 drillships are built on proprietary Samsung hull designs with advanced capabilities to meet the demands of ultra-deepwater drilling in depths of up to 10,000 feet with a total vertical drilling depth of 40,000 feet. They include many features that increase operating efficiency.

Our ENSCO 8500 Series® ultra-deepwater semisubmersible rigs, capable of drilling in up to 8,500 feet of water, use a proprietary design developed with extensive input from customers to address the drilling requirements of nearly every deep water field around the world. These rigs have built a history of outstanding performance and continue to attract repeat customers.

Our deepwater semisubmersibles are proven performers in up to 7,500 feet of water. Primarily built on Amethyst hulls, these rigs have handled deepwater challenges in fields ranging from Brazil and Angola to the Mediterranean.

Additional dynamically positioned and moored semisubmersible rigs capable of working up to 4,500 feet are strategically located, with a strong track record of reliable performance.

Jackup Capabilities

We have the world’s largest fleet of premium jackups. The fleet includes 46 rigs, including three ultra-premium harsh-environment jackups under construction. We have invested more than $1 billion in our jackup fleet since 2005, including high-specification jackups with proprietary technology.

The ENSCO 120 series ultra-premium harsh-environment jackups are enhanced versions of the KFELS Super A design, capable of operating in water depths up to 400’ and drilling ultra-long reach wells up to 40,000’ total drilling depth. The unique design features significantly increase the area of operability in the Central North Sea and other regions around the world with equipment and capabilities previously found only in the largest ultra-harsh environment jackup rigs.

Global Presence

We have experience around the globe and a presence across six continents. Our rigs are operating today in nearly every strategic oil and gas area in the world, from the North Sea to the “golden triangle” of the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and West Africa, and from the Middle East and the Mediterranean to Asia and Australia. We manage our business through five geographic business units: North and South America (excluding Brazil); Brazil; Europe and the Mediterranean; Middle East and Africa; and Asia-Pacific.

Safety Performance

Operating in some of the world’s most challenging offshore environments, we have established a safety performance record that consistently exceeds industry averages by focusing on proven safety systems that are actively supported at the highest levels of the organization and consistently applied. We also offer extensive training programs to enable our employees to continually build their competence and knowledge. Our Competency Assurance Program is accredited by the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
